IN THIS LESSON
Vocational interests are relatively stable preferences for certain activities and work environments. They provide direction, energy, and perseverance–and are especially useful when deciding between specific fields of study, roles, or occupational paths. In this chapter, you will clarify your interest profile, understand how interests and passion develop, and use the RIASEC model as a practical compass for exploring and evaluating career options.
The RIASEC Party Exercise
In this exercise, you will playfully explore your RIASEC interest types by imagining mingling with groups of people with similar career inclinations at a fictional party. Find out which characteristics and activities attract you, and then switch groups to broaden your perspective. Reflecting on your decisions will deepen your clarity about your career interests, helping you better orient your career.
